Schuylkill County's Vision has been working tirelessly to make sure that Schuylkill Haven has identified walking paths. Interim Executive Director, Mandy Fitzpatrick has been working with Pennsylvania Department of Health and the Lehigh Valley Health Network to identify and get the word out about walking paths right in our back yard.
"WalkWorks is a local walking program for people of all ages and abilities. WalkWorks is a project to increase opportunities for physical activity through a network of fun, fact-filled, community-based walking routes and walking groups." Schuylkill County Vision.
The Canal Path is a one mile round trip path through Schuylkill Haven. The walk begins at The Island Park with stops at the Schuylkill River Water Trail, the Schuylkill Haven Railroad, the Library, the Historical Society and the Walk In Art Center. Did you know that there is a report card that DCNR (Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources) puts out to grade your community on the distance residents have to walk to the nearest park. Schuylkill Haven's score: 98% - Wow! We rock!
Don't wait! Get out and walk. There is so much to see and do. With COVID 19 wrecking everything in its path - the parks and walking path have given community members a place to breathe freely.
